There was never a doubt that Rhodesian Ridgebacks were going to be my one and only breed as I was born into a family of them.
My mother was an avid horse and dog woman, and the apple did not fall far from the tree so every equestrian event that we attended together there were always our Rhodesian Ridgebacks in the horse box making the most of their day trip, walking the course and jumping the fences.
She bred very lightly over the years always keeping a daughter from each litter to continue her Rhodesian Ridgeback affix Prior Park.
At the age of 24 I welcomed my first Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy bitch into my world of which she soon became its entirety.
Mataqua Rooibos was a spirited red wheaten bitch who become my foundation bitch, and determined my type going forward.
She was never shown regrettably, but she did produce my first two champions Ch Touch of Kryha and Ch Jhumha Jarza of Nzuri.
I didn’t have an affix at that point, but I was able to apply for my affix ‘Priorpark’ shortly after and that was granted in 2004.
From that point I occasionally bred always keeping a girl and from there the story unfolds throughout our website.
Myself and my partner Robin Humphrey only ever breed to achieve sound temperaments, good health with testing and more
importantly to raise superb family pets.
2006 saw me take my first Rhodesian Ridgeback judging appointment and I had the honour of awarding my first set
of challenge certificates in our breed in 2019.
We aim to breed a Rhodesian Ridgeback that fits the breed standard and to be truly fit for function with a true, balanced and effortless gait.
